- Clermont-Ferrand
was founded in the 17th century from the union of Clermont, a
town of the Bishops, and Montferrand, the town of the Counts of
Auvergne. Clermont-Ferrand is spread out at the foot of the chain
of eighty volcanoes called the Chaîne des Puys.
- The
telluric ground of the central hill contains two millennium of
history, it is the place where everything started:
"It is here,
with the black Cathedral spires, that one must look beyond
the houses sloping down, to see the Puy de Dôme pushing
up its bluish sky-line" (Henri Pourrat)
