Montjuzet Park

 

 

Covering 26 hectares, this park provides a fantastic view over Clermont-Ferrand and its natural environment. A marvellous place to relax with its succession of fields, Mediterranean garden, children's games and Gallic huts.
Two monumental contemporary sculptures blend in with the outline of the hill - "The erratic Tor" by Takashi Naraha, and the "Chromatic induction fountain" by Carlos Cruz Diez.
Access to the lawns and picnic areas is allowed.

 

Lecoq Garden

Open from 6.45 a.m. to 9 p.m. in summer and from 6.45 a.m. to 6 p.m. in winter.

This garden of 5 hectares was laid out in 1863 by Henri Lecoq, a chemist fascinated by botany. This park in the middle of the town has an enormous lake, a rose garden and a theatre of greenery and sculpted ensembles. The footbridge is in line with the gothic entrance of the Château de Bien Assis where Blaise Pascal stayed.


La Charme Botanical Gardens

Open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Except week-end and holidays from November to March.
Guided tours by appointment.

The garden covers an area of 4 hectares with: 

  • a taxonomic scientific, pharmaceutical and economic collection of plants,
  • an ecological or geographical area where aquatic plants, rock plants, and heather are grown, together with plant life representative of the Monts d'Auvergne.
  • an orchard of woody fruit trees.
  • an arboretum limited to specific decorative species - a mixed border of perennials, a living record of climbing plants, trees, bushes and ornamental hedges.

 

Le Creux de l'enfer Park

The most recent of the parks in Clermont-Ferrand, in the Landais district. This 4,5 hectare park has no paths, one walks on the grass. Three playground areas have been laid out.

Parks and Gardens in the Urban District

Montgroux Park (Cébazat)

Lawns, orchards, numerous lakes and a long shady head race which pours its water on a huge water wheel, make this park a pleasant place to relax.

Montjoly Park (Chamalières)

Green parkland which surrounds the present Town Hall, an old residence dating from the XVIII century. A garden à la française laid out in three terraces joined by flights of steps. Classic flowerbeds with central and transversal alleys, lawns and mirrors of circular ponds with fountains. Playground for children.

National arboretum of Royat

1 km. after Royat in the direction of the Puy de Dôme. Guided tours are possible. The arboretum, created in 1934, belongs to the Forestry Commission and covers more than 30 hectares. There are some remarkable trees and rare species.

Bargoin Park (Royat)

An English parkland covering 7 hectares, spread over different levels and dominating the whole of Clermont. You will find near to 600 species of trees. XIX century botanical garden.

Thermal Park (Royat)

A very pleasant place for a walk, the lower part of the Thermal Park houses gallo-roman remains and notably a swimming pool. When going up the alleys, you will see the Rotunda of the Eugénie source named after the Empress who made a visit to the spa.
